SABRE
FOIL
Foil is the modern version of a rapier; it has a thin, flexible blade with a square cross-section and a small bell guard. Hits are scored with the point, anywhere on the opponent's torso including the groin and back Illustrated below.
The Foil is probably the best all round weapon.
ÉPEé
Épée is the modern derivative of the dueling sword; the blade has a triangular cross section and is stiffer and heavier than a foil and sabre, with a larger bell guard.
Hits are scored with the point, anywhere on the opponent's body as Illustrated below.
SABRE
The Sabre differs from the other modern fencing weapons, the Épée and Foil, in that it is possible to score with the edge of the blade and the point anywhere above the hips including the head as Illustrated below; for this reason, sabreur movements and attacks are very fast.
